Have You Used Your Vest?

It's been 10 days now of practising my vest. I've been practicing after dinner time everyday for 1 hour.

I am getting the knack of it. Indeed, this is not something you can do immediately. I compare it with Sean Bogunia's Dancing Hank Act. It took me a month before I could perform it for a paid audience.

I plan to perform it for the 1st time this coming Sunday. That will be almost 3 weeks of practice and routine. I will use an umbrella for the changes. I try to be close to the umbrella as much as possible so that my moves will be undetectable. I have figured out a way to make 6 color changes in my routine.

How about you guys? How long did it take you to be able to perform it in your shows?

Excellent question Lou!

I have been using the waistcoat for about five years now.

I cannot remember exactly how long it took to get down to being performable, but it is second nature to me now.

As you say it does take time for any item to be ready for the public, but that is all part of the job!

I hope that you will take some pictures Sunday to share with us, or better still a video if you can.

Best of luck with your "virgin" performance Lou! Let us know how it goes and what the reaction is.

Re: Have You Used Your Vest?

Finally, I have used the vest in 3 of my shows this weekend.

I used the umbrella as a cover. On my first show, I flashed with one of the changes because I was holding the umbrella too high. Since I was wearing the vest the whole show, I accidentaly flicked on color during my parrot show. I had to flick it back immediately hoping the audience won't notice but they did.

The second show went smoothly and I heard grasps from the audience during the changes. The problem was my audience was too close to me (about 8 feet away), the girl in front was pointing to my vest. My conclusion is that 10 feet is the safety line if you are using the vest without a jacket.

The third show went fine but this time I used an extra large umbrella for cover and this was better. But timing was delayed because the blue and stripes went together.

The only concern is movements are limited specially if you are performing illusions or moves that require you to extend your arms swiftly or sudden movements like pushing and pulling, you really have to be careful. I was quite stiff so as not to expose any disconnections on my vest.

The safest way is to wear your jacket back as soon as you finish with the color changes. In this way, you can go to your audience close and have no fear of exposure.

Also, the larger the umbrella, the better.

I plan to use my seance cloth on my next show. I planned to use it but I discovered that mt 3rd hand is positioned on the right. I'm used to using my left hand for the changes.

Re: Have You Used Your Vest?

Hello everyone - I am knew to this forum.

I have bought the Snow Leopard Vest from '[sign in to see URL]' in conjunction with the Polka dot silk. I am sure you can appreciate that having spent a lot of money on these products, how much i would like to perform this once set up rightly.

I am currently having problems setting up my vest. i can get it to turn black but once I lift it up and put it on the does are mixed or turn white. The vest showed white dots when i first opened this trick. Perhaps there is something I am not doing right. I really want this to work as it is simple, please can you help me with the set up??

Thanks
Sean -England
