Sounds like a great idea as a running gag (which is one of the things that I suggest). This psychology really sets an audience up for the final change.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lee Alex)Thu, 11 Jan 2007 04:25:58 +0000 Re: Multiple Changeshttps://bmagicwaistcoat.runboard.com/p118,from=rss#post118https://bmagicwaistcoat.runboard.com/p118,from=rss#post118I followed Lee’s idea here and so far I’ve only used my color changing vest/waistcoat as an MC bit. That is I used it almost as a running gag. Frankly, I don’t exploit the magical color change until the final change to a flag. Most recently, I was hired to act as an MC for a Cabaret show playing a New Years Eve event. There were several acts (eight all told plus me). I was to introduce each act and to close the show with a short magic performance. Then I would count down to the New Year. My act was timed to end with three minutes to the New Year. Each time I came on stage I had changed the color of the waistcoat using the white, red, blue only. I wanted the audience to believed that I had simply changed the waistcoat each time I went off stage. In this way they were set-up for the final change to the flag. I did a few things to sell the idea that I was simply changing waistcoats and to emphasize the color change. The first time I came out with the wrong color pocket-handkerchief (had a white one in place and it needed to be red). I looked down at the waistcoat then at the hank, took the hank and put it into my jacket pocket and took out the proper color and tucked it into the jacket breast pocket with a shrug and nervous smile then announced the next act. A later time I came on pretending to button up the waistcoat. Another time I came on putting on my jacket as if I didn’t have enough time to complete the change of costume. I used one of three silks of the proper color for the breast pocket to complete the look.    Each color had the opportunity to be seen at least twice (final color three times as a set-up for the flag transformation). I did the colors in random order not in repeated sequences as I had all the time in the world to execute the changes. As best I could I tried to color coordinate with the act I was announcing (red for orange, blue for purple). The final change was done as part of my finale! I produced a silk flag on flagstaff and used it as a cover to (apparently) instantly change the waistcoat. It was a crowd pleaser. nondisclosed_email@example.com (mumblepeas)Wed, 10 Jan 2007 21:41:31 +0000 Re: Multiple Changeshttps://bmagicwaistcoat.runboard.com/p71,from=rss#post71https://bmagicwaistcoat.runboard.com/p71,from=rss#post71The colour change can be used as a "running gag" throughout your performance. Personally I would only allow the red, white and blue final design to be seen once - as the very final change. Otherwise any combination of red, white and blue can be performed as you wish. I would also recommend that red and blue are not shown one after the other, but the white should come in between, as this is the strongest contrast.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lee Alex)Mon, 23 Oct 2006 12:53:28 +0000 Multiple Changeshttps://bmagicwaistcoat.runboard.com/p66,from=rss#post66https://bmagicwaistcoat.runboard.com/p66,from=rss#post66I have been thinking a lot about this vest. It is quite a quick trick to perform. My concern is that most of the audience might not notice what has taken effect. Unless, you do make them focus on it. For example, there are many instances when a lady assistant goes in an illusion box and switches her costume to another color or design. A lot of times, this goes unnoticed by the audience. I myself, at times, don't notice it until I watch it the second time. I am thinking of doing multiple changes. That is, instead of the usual 4 color change, I do it in succession to 8 changes all at one time. That is, red to white to blue to multicolor then back to red, white, blue and, finally, the multicolor. Or another idea is to alternate each color: red to white, white to red, red to white, white to blue, blue to white, white to blue, blue to multicolor. What do you think of it?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lou Hilario)Mon, 23 Oct 2006 04:06:41 +0000
